Experimental Pill Fights Inherited Cancer - Study Shows PARP Inhibitors Curb Growth of Some Breast, Ovarian, Prostate Tumors. For the second time this month, researchers report success using a novel type of anticancer pill to curb the growth of inherited tumors that often defy standard treatment. Called olaparib, the experimental pill is a member of a new class of drugs called PARP inhibitors that prevent unstable cancer cells from repairing themselves.

Richard J. Davies, MD It is with sadness and a deep sense of regret that we inform you of the passing of Richard J. Davies, MD February 5, 2009. Dr. Davies was the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at HUMC, Hackensack, NJ and was Professor of Surgery at UMD New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Mary K. (nee Brumfield) Davies, his children, Keely, Courtney and Spencer Davies, his father, John Davies and his mother, Gladys (Turner) Davies. The OctoberWoman Foundation will continue to support his worthy breast cancer prevention research. Donations can be made in memory of Dr. Davies by contacting the office at 201.391.0792.
